Each year, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation gathers families of fallen firefighters together in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The names of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice will be inscribed on a bronze plate and added to the national memorial. This year, the 148 firefighters who died while in the line of duty in 2021 will be honored.
In honor and remembrance of their sacrifices and the families left behind, President Biden has ordered all flags on public buildings and grounds to be flown at half staff on October 9, 2022. All citizens and businesses are invited to do the same and fly their flag at half staff.
