On September 29, 2022, an assailant attacked and killed FDNY Lieutenant Alison Russo-Elling. According to the NYPost, Lt. Russo-Elling was getting food when she was attacked without warning and stabbed upwards of 20 times.
Lt. Russo-Elling was known as a selfless individual. She was also a World Trade Center responder on September 11, 2001. In honor of her life, sacrifice, and selfless service, New York Governer Kathy Hochul has ordered New York flags to be flown at half staff from today, September 30, until sunset the day of the Lieutenant’s funeral. All New York residents are invited to also put their flag at half staff.
